The “PACIFIC AVENUE, Santa Cruz, CA “ poster is a tribute to one of California’s most adored downtown main streets.  Today’s Pacific Avenue is at the heart of Santa Cruz’ revitalization after the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake. It is almost 2 miles from the clock tower to the wharf making Pacific Avenue one of the longest downtown main streets (for a city this size) in California.

Pacific Avenue, formerly known as the Pacific Garden Mall, runs North to South from Water Street/Mission Street, eventually hitting Beach Street and the Municipal Wharf. Pacific Avenue is the center of the city’s downtown. It has shops, restaurants, theatres, and interesting people. Pacific Avenue is known for street performers and lively cultural life.

Pacific Avenue is also home to Bookshop Santa Cruz, a local institution which carries international new papers and has frequent guest author events.

I am excited to include Pacific Avenue, in a portfolio of important cities and regions I have illustrated over the last 20 years. As an artist, I have created edition posters celebrating cities and regions around the country. Some of those include Portland, San Francisco, Boston, Davis, Silicon Valley, Sacramento, Watsonville, Lake Tahoe, Route 128, Half Moon Bay, Ventura, New York City, Wall Street, Seattle, Palo Alto, Pasadena, the Tannery Arts Center and Santa Cruz just to name a few.

“Mr. Scudder’s posters have been collected by buyers from around the globe, a reflection of his keen eye and commitment to the regions that he illustrates. His unique vantage point captures the insider’s view of the communities he portrays. When completed he has captured the spirit of a place for thousands of viewers to enjoy.”  Benjamin Taylor, Painter/Educator
